Karpus

Countless information continues to flow at this very moment. Hotly debated topics are read and discussed by everyone through featured articles. The precision of content recommended to individual preferences is remarkably high. Feeling a bit tired of being bombarded with saturated information, six individuals from the same generation (born between 1989 and 1993) came together to ponder, "What is it that we truly want to read and engage with?" They launched the newsletter "karpus" and took charge of its art direction and logo design. They continue to contribute as writers to this day.

Create space in your thoughts, just like placing flowers in a room.

With such sentiments, we decided to launch a newsletter that delivers subtle perspectives and landscapes hidden in someone's daily life. About "karpus is a newsletter that delivers subtle perspectives and landscapes hidden in someone's daily life. Things that may not be necessary to live, but are still precious. Things that are being forgotten, yet hold value. Amidst the pursuit of meaning and worth in our daily lives, karpus offers a quiet and gentle pause. We hope that it will provide a different perspective and nurture thoughts separate from the public discourse." quoted from karpus letter

Listen closely to that whisper.

The name of the newsletter is "Streptocarpus," taken from the name of a flower. Its flower language is "Listen closely to that whisper." The logo design was inspired by the gently swaying flowers that bloom sideways, symbolizing the act of gently listening to the beautiful whispers hidden beneath the mainstream flow of information that gracefully glides above the horizon.

Capturing the unnoticed, voiceless beauty that truly resides in everyday life.

The main visuals were shot by the photographer Kyosuke Azuma. He captured over 30 photographs that embody the essence of karpus – the quiet, subtle, and beautiful aspects that truly lie hidden in someone's everyday life.

In the age of information overflow,

Amidst the chaotic times, the newsletter aims to create a weekly moment of tranquility, just like the breathing space provided by the Streptocarpus flower, which inspired its name. The design is centered around the color purple, reflecting the flower's hue, while keeping it simple, universal, and free from any specific cultural influences. The goal was to have a clean and minimalistic design, free from unnecessary elements. The blurry photographs that appear at the beginning of the SNS posts and newsletters intentionally create an ambiguous presence, but by the end of reading the newsletter, the true meaning and beauty of these images become clear and vivid.
